Bill Daniel’s Tri-X-Noise

If you've ever shot a roll of film and processed it yourself, or taken a photography class in high school or college or anywhere else. Chances are you've worked with Kodak Tri-X developed in D-76. In fact, less than an hour ago, I developed two rolls of tri-x in d-76. It's such a classic combination, that one could deem it unfuckwithable. Want proof? The photo above is one I shot on Tri-x and souped in D-76. One of the things that I love about shooting film in the digital era, is that there is this community of analog photographers. Recently we here at Shutterclank! have had the amazing opportunity...

apps everywhere!

i like experimenting. using film, any various combinations await and i like mixing it up. ive been shooting arista, ilford, and sometimes kodak, and developing in hc110, ilford, and of late, ive been using jake’s secret recipe of rodinal. so  i was super stoked when chris turned me on to this little development app. this thing calculates processing times for any combination of the above soups and films. it delivers it with a reduced lighting timer and is fairly idiot proof… Shutterclank! is all about film– but we have nothing against digital photography, nor digital technology. i downloaded...

out of step…

Growing up, there were two things that changed my life for ever. The first, was a copy of Thrasher magazine that I pestered my brother into buying for me on my birthday. August 1st 1989. I was 10. Shortly after that purchase, skateboarding became an obsession for me. I was a twerpy kid, so team sports weren't really my thang. Skateboarding opened the doors to a whole DIY youth culture, that I still cannot ignore. Through that I discovered punk rock. I can't imagine what my life would have been like without these two major influences. It's easy for outsiders to look skating and punk and see the destructive,...

Azz Everywhere

There are things that only a 6 foot-5 inch-tall transvestite from New Orleans can make you do. Having experienced the phenomenon that is Big Freedia, I can personally tell you that making it clap to Azz Everywhere, is one of those things. I knew that myself and every other yinzer in the Shadow Lounge would not be spared from the full fledged attack from the lovely Freedia. So, I went armed with my Polaroid Spectra in hand. What you see above is not some iphone app. That's the real deal. Believe me, you haven't felt like a creeper until you've taken polaroids of some stranger's ass. What the hell,...

GZ | Soulye Photography Art Gallery

Relocating and living in a new city is always a good thing. It inspires new friends and collaborations. This past weekend, I met an awesome photographer who is doing a really amazing thing – orchestrating a photography art gallery. Photography can be an awkward medium – Stieglitz was an early photographer to pave the way to be taken as a serious art. The surrealists like Man Ray and Lee Miller catapulted it into a fine art medium, alongside street photographers like Cartier-Bresson and Atget, all of whom demanded a nod to fine art. Later, with portrait photographers like Richard Avedon, Gordon...
