beefcake!

a cool thing about being a preservation librarian is that i get to feast my eyes on amazing materials and figure out how best to preserve them. sometimes its tricky, such as artists books made of food and flammable materials...other times, its more straight forward, such as black & white gelatin silver prints - keep them cool and, moderately dry, and they will last a good long time. my new favorite collection at stanford is the photographs of dave martin. he photographed classically posed male nudes around mid-20th century, the genre is mostly known as 'beefcake,' which was in direct response...

Green light: off to press

Today is a great day! About an hour ago, we sent our layout off to the press. Within the next few days I'll be holding the proof copy in my hands. Stay tuned, because soon enough we'll have issue #1.

release

Last night was the opening reception for "Release" at The Gallery 4 in Pittsburgh. I was lucky enough to have three photos displayed amongst some truly great paintings and mixed media pieces. The reception was encouraging and inspiring. Shutterclank! is a work in progress. Experiences like last night will help to grow and refine what we're doing with the zine and the other photographers we're collaborating with. I'm having trouble articulating the excitement that I was feeling after I left the gallery. If I can bring even 1/10th of that creative energy to our project here, we'll all be in for an amazing...

tying up loose ends

We're busy tying up the loose ends for Issue #1. I'm so excited to hold the finished product in my hands. This 1st issue has really been inspiring to work on. It's got me thinking about some new photo projects. I want to pick up one of theselil guys, and take to the streets. If you happen to be in Pittsburgh this week, make sure to stop by The Gallery 4.
